2024 Lake Morena Campout

The first weekend in June is our annual campout at Lake Morena, May 31 – June 2th. Lake Morena has something for everyone: Fishing (trout, bass, Blue Gill, Crappie), Hiking, Full Hook-ups, Tent Camping, Hot Showers, Nature Programs put on by the Rangers, Campfires, even a café nearby for those that wish a meal indoors. It’s lots of fun to watch the wild turkeys troop through the park, great pictures for the camera buff.

Friday NIGHT (7pm) “MOVIE NIGHT” WITH POPCORN, CAMPSITE LOCATION TBD

Saturday morning around 10:00, we will have a ladies craft under the big oak tree in the center section, kIDS CRAFT TO FOLLOW. Saturday, at 11am, will be our Annual Horseshoe Tournament, with a $10 entry fee and a $5 jackpot per team and prizes for the top 2 winning teams.

Saturday evening at 5:30 is the big potluck. Maybe, if we are lucky, we can get our “BBQ Guys,” Tyler Hart and Aric Erlandsen, to Barbeque the Brisket, chicken, and kielbasa again this year. The Club provides the meat, and each family brings a side dish to share. If your name starts with A-M, please bring a side. Names starting in N-Z, please bring a appetizer or Dessert. After dinner join Larry Courtney, our Grand Poobah at the campfire, for Rooster, Rooster, Little Red Rooster and Smores. Sunday morning will be our Annual Waffle Breakfast.
Campsite Tickets go on sale at the April 10th meeting.

Day at the Docks (Help a Kid Fish)

On Sunday, April 7, 2024, the parking lots at Fisherman’s Landing, Point Loma
Sportfishing, and H&M Sportfishing will be closed and the area will become a huge free
festival, DAY AT THE DOCKS. This is a FREE and FUN day to come down, listen to
the band, check-out all the booths ranging from art, clothing, sunhats, jewelry, fishing
tackle, travel insurance, travel, tour the boats, go on boat rides, and it is an especially
wonderful time to bring kids down to the Bay to catch their first fish at the fishing pens.
This is a fun family event.

The San Diego Anglers will be manning the Kids Fishing Pens at Fisherman’s Landing
and Point Loma Sportfishing. This is a fun experience and great opportunity to share our
sport with families that might not otherwise have the opportunity to fish.
We need Volunteers to help at the pens. The shifts are broken up into two-hour
increments. Currently, especially in the afternoon from 1pm-3pm and 3pm-5pm, we are very
light on help. The 3pm-5pm shift actually goes until about 4pm for the fishing, then there is
takedown from 4pm to 5pm. There are also opportunities to work in the SDA Booth, which is
also broken up into shifts. You will receive a DAY AT THE DOCKS T-SHIRT if you sign up by
March 6th.

Membership Renewal Time

It’s that wonderful time of the year for early membership renewal.

For those who renew in November or December you have an opportunity to win two tickets to the San Diego Anglers awards banquet. Two tickets will be awarded at the November meeting and two at the December meeting. If your name is not drawn at the November meeting then it will be placed into the December drawing where you will still have a chance to win.

Membership dues are $90 for entire family. $90 for single adults, 16 years and older. $90 for juniors, 15 years and under and without a paying adult.

You may have noticed that dues have increased by $10 for each class of membership. These Dues are used to pay for all the extras, such as the meat for the Lake Morena campout, the SDA summer picnic, the Holiday Party, increased insurance costs, and much more. Because of rising costs, the SDA Board voted to increase dues.

Come see the membership gang when you come to those meetings and renew your membership.
